A short story describing how Camp Phoenix came to be:
By:
Sarah and Zoey
One day a few peasants
came across a big field on a sunny day. Land in that day was very rare and
quite pricey to get. The peasants new that if they claimed this piece of land,
they would make a whole lot of money and become rich.
One day they where camping in the field
when they noticed a red and orange phoenix bird. They knew the bird was very
special because for the next week it would come back each day and watch the
peasants. They named it sunset for it`s amazingly colorful wings. Still the
peasants needed a name for the camp. While they where discussing what the name
of the camp should be, a hurricane came in totally unexpected and ether killed
the peasants or picked them up and carried them far away.
200 years later a man named Forest Bobby Jones came along
and re-founded the camp site that once was belonged to the peasants. He thought
it would make a good town. On his way back to his car, he heard a faint cry. He
then found it was a baby Phoenix and decided to name the town Phoenixville.
10 years later the town was very wealthy and good. One man
named Larry Henstin had to go fix a wire near the old camp site. When he got
there he saw other homeless people then and realized how thinthey were and
how big he was. He then decided to make a room where people could get healthier.
He called it a gym and named the place the YMCA.
Later on the YMCA grew into something really big and even
got a song for it. While the people that worked there were trying to find ideas
on how to make more money or they would be shut down for good. One employee had
the idea to create a camp in the space behind the woods. The wondered what to
call it. They tried YMCA camp, summer camp, and even The Best Camp Ever, but
none of the names worked. Then a woman
got an idea, her idea, Camp Phoenix. Every one agreed.
This is how Camp Phoenix got its name!!!!
