Don’t let your special needs child miss out on the joys of a summer camp experience - Experience the MAJIC and Camp AKAI! Freedom Valley YMCA believes all children are, first and foremost-children- regardless of need or abilities. We have designed several programs with special needs in mind. Camp MAJIC and Camp AKAI.
Camp MAJICDesigned for campers with physical, social, emotional and mental disabilities – age 3 to 12. Grouped by age and ability level, campers will be exposed to adapted camp activities such as swimming, games, crafts and much more. We develop a safe, affordable and supportive summer camp experience that fosters the development of positive social and learning skills. Campers are encouraged to participate fully but not beyond their capabilities with low camper-to-counselor ratios.
Camp AKAI
Camp AKAI (All Kids Are Individuals) is a co-ed, camp within a well-rounded, traditional day camp program, AKAI is a small, supportive program that helps campers improve their social skills. AKAI campers are bright, creative boys and girls ages 5–12 who have difficulty connecting with their peers; the camp strives to build self-confidence and find success. Many, but not all, of our campers have been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome.
